16-] The Problem Of Unemployment .

                     The problem of unemployment belongs to the biggest problems of the modern world . A lot of people not only do not have any work , but also they do not have any further prospects . What is more , the number of the unemployed people is still increasing . To make the situation worse , the policy of privatization and paying no care to keeping the rights of workers . Workers are fired without any reasons and the living conditions of people who are out of work are getting worse and worse . I would like to present some proposals how we can cope with the problem of unemployment .

                     At first , I think that a greater support should be provided for small and medium enterprises to be able to develop much faster and soon they will provide more and more working opportunities for unemployed people . I also think that wide educational offer should be provided which gives citizens the possibility to develop their own skills and take up much jobs they really would like to take . Thanks to a such system , we can create a lot of well-qualified experts in various branches in industry , agriculture , tourism etc.  The other solution to cope with the problem of unemployment is trying to limit bureaucracy in establishing your own business .

                    To sum up , I would like to stress that the problem of unemployment is very difficult to solve unless serious and true efforts are exerted by all the individuals and the organizations of the whole society .

15-] Food Shortage .

                       The crisis of food shortage has its roots in four interlinked trends . The first is the chronically low productivity of farmers in the poorest countries caused by their inability to pay for seeds , fertilizers and irrigation . The second is the misguided policy in the US and Europe of subsidizing the diversion of food crops to produce biofuels like coin-based ethanol . The third is climate change , take the recent droughts in Australia and Europe which cut the global production of grain in 2003 and 2006 . The fourth is the growing global demand for food and feed-grains brought on by swelling populations and incomes .In short , rising demand has hit a limited supply , with the poor taking the hardest blow .

                      In the contemporary world according to the statistics of the UN Food And Agriculture Organization about 2.6 billion people worldwide rely on a daily income that is below $ 2 [ two dollars ] , about fourth fifth of this income is spent on food . 315 million people in sub-Saharan Africa currently live on less than $ 1 [ one dollar ] a day according to the UN Development Program [ UNDP ] . About 35% of the total population is malnourished due to the shortage of food – this means about 200 million people . According to the UN Food Program 19 out of 53 countries of Africa face serious hunger problems .

                      The rush to grow crops to be turned into fuel [ biofuels ] could exacerbate food shortages and price rises . While the families in the West have plenty to eat , some 850 million people around the world go to bed hungry each night .

                     Professor Watson said the industrialization of agriculture of which GM [ Genetic Modification ] is a part has led to the heavy use of artificial fertilizers and other chemicals . These have harmed the soil structure and polluted water ways . The leeching of  the soil of essential minerals means food is less healthy than 60 years ago . He as a professor – a renowned expert on climate change and chief scientist at the UK Food and Farming Department suggests organic farming practices offer many benefits .UK GM Crop trials have shown that associated farming practices destroy the weed population , removing food for bees , butterflies and other

insects and harm food supply for birds . There have been concerns that food could also trigger unforeseen allergies .

                     Here are three steps to ease the crisis of food shortage and avert the potential for a global disaster . The first is to establish a special fund in every country as well as a world fund to help the farmers get fertilizers , high-yield seeds and agricultural equipment and machinery . An international fund cost $ 10 billion in all could fight hunger effectively . Second the US and Europe should abandon their policies of subsiding the conversion of food into bio-fuels . The US government gives farmers a tax-payer financed subsidy of 51 cents per gallon of ethanol to divert corn from the food and feed-grain supply . There may be a case for biofuels produced on lands that do not produce foods , tree crops , grasses and wood products , but there is no case for doling out subsidies to put the world’s dinner into the gas tank .

Third , we urgently need to weatherproof the world’s crops as soon and as effectively as possible . The world has already committed to establishing a Climate Adaptation Fund to help poor regions climate-proof vital economic activities such as food production and health care .

                        What is true for food will be true for energy , water and other increasingly scarce resources . We can combat these problems as long as we act rapidly . New energy sources like solar , thermal power and new energy-saving technologies like plug-in hybrid automobiles can be developed and mobilized within a few years . Environmentally sound fish farming can relieve pressures on the oceans . The food crisis provides not only a warning , but also an opportunity . We need to invest vastly more in sustainable development in order to achieve true global security and economic growth .

14-] The Problem Of Over-population .

                   Over-population is a condition where an organism’s numbers exceed the carrying capacity of its habitat. In common parlance the term usually refers to the relationship between the human population and its environment – the Earth .

                  Over-population does not depend only on the size or density of the population , but on the ratio of population to available sustainable resources and on the means of resource use and distribution used by that population . Over-population can result from an increase in births , a decline in mortality rates due to medical advances , from an increase in immigration or from an unsustainable biome and depletion of resources . It is possible for very sparsely-populated areas to be over-populated as the area in question may have a meager or non-existent capability to sustain human life . Over-population places competitive stress on the basic life sustaining resources leading to a diminished quantity of life .

               At the dawn of agriculture about 8.000 BC the population of the world was approximately 5 million .From around 800AD onwards the growth was slow but steady . The faster growth began from the start of the Industrial Revolution around 1700AD . The number of population was estimated about one billion in 1804 . In 1939 it was approximately 2.3 billion. In 2009 it was over 607 billion . By 2050 population is forecast to carry on growing to 9.5 – 11 billion . World population is currently growing by approximately 74 million people per day . Almost all growth will take place in the less developed regions where today’s 5.3 billion population of underdeveloped countries is expected to increase to 7.8 billion in 2050 . By contrast the population of more developed regions will remain mostly unchanged at 1.2 billion . The population of 51 countries or areas including Germany , Italy , Japan and most of the successor states of the former Soviet Union is expected to be lower in 2050 than in 2005 . During 2005-2050 nine countries are expected to account for half of the world’s projected  population increase : India , Pakistan , Nigeria , Democratic Republic of the Congo , Bangladesh , Uganda , USA , Ethiopia and China listed according to population growth .

                       With the imbalance growing between population numbers and vital life sustaining resources , humans must actively conserve cropland , fresh water , energy and biological resources . There is a need to develop renewable energy resources . Humans everywhere must understand that rapid population growth damages the Earth’s resources and diminishes human well-being . Many of the minerals that we need for a variety of products are in danger of running out in the near future . A large expansion of agriculture to provide growing populations with improved diets is likely to lead to further deforestation , loss of species , soil erosion and pollution from pesticides and fertilizer run off as farming intensifies and new land is brought to production . The structure of the world’s ecosystems changed more rapidly in the second half of the 20^th century than any time in recorded human history and virtually all of the Earth’s ecosystems have now been significantly transformed through human actions . The objective of this is not to present a dark and gloomy scenario , but an urgent call to action .

                    More than 100 countries now import wheat and 40 countries import rice . Egypt relies on imports for more than 40% of its grain supply . Just 6 countries supply 90% of grain exports – US , Canada , France , Australia , Argentina and Thailand . The US alone supplies almost half of world grain exports . Hunger and malnutrition kill nearly 6 million children a year in Africa . In sub-Saharan Africa the number of malnourished people grew to 203.5 million people in 2000 – 2002 . Nearly half of India’s children are malnourished according to recent government data .

                  Agriculture has displaced one-third of temperate and tropical forests and one-quarter of natural grass lands . Usable land may become less useful through salinization , deforestation , desertification , erosion and urban sprawl . Global warming may cause flooding of many of the most productive agricultural areas . Thus available useful land may become a limiting factor . By most estimates at least half of cultivable land is already being farmed and there are concerns that the remaining reserves are greatly overestimated . The UN indicates that about 850 million people are malnourished or starving and 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water .

                    There are several mitigation measures that have or can be applied to reduce the adverse impacts of over-population such as birth regulations , education , space invasion and settlement and making the most optimum use of the sea and reclamation of desert land , clean energy resources etc.
